Harriet Powers (1837 - 1910) was an extraordinary quiltmaker. Two of her Bible-themed quilts, icons of American quilt making, are in the collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
The original headstone for Mr. and Mrs. Powers was broken and removed in 2009. Temporary banners marked the gravesite. Now, fifteen years later, the Women Color Quilters Network has sponsored a new commemorative marker.
Join us for the ceremony. This event is free and open to the public.
