Volunteer with Historic Athens

If you have an interest in local history and the preservation of historic buildings, we could use your help!

Whether it’s as simple as sticking mailing labels or as detailed as serving on one of our committees, Historic Athens always welcomes energetic, passionate volunteers to help carry out our mission. Below are just a few of the volunteer opportunities we offer:

  • Our committees are essential for the planning of events and programs. If you would like to serve on any of these committees please contact one of our staff.

Committees: Special Events, Finance & Development, Revolving Fund, Education & Advocacy, Hands on Historic Athens, Historic Athens Welcome Center

  • Hands on Historic Athens (HOHA) receives funding through Community Development Block Grant funds administered by the Athens-Clarke County Housing & Community Development Department. HOHA also relies upon local construction partners and volunteers whenever possible.

If you’re interested in volunteering, common projects include:
    - Floor and ceiling repair
    - Minor plumbing
    - Roof & gutter repair
    - Yard clean-up
    - Painting

  • If you have an interest in helping carry out Historic Athens' mission of advocating for historic preservation in Athens and want to get directly involved in shaping our programs and events, consider becoming a member of our Board of Trustees.

This volunteer group of dedicated individuals sets the tone for the organization’s direction and we are always looking for new talents and perspectives. No previous background in historic preservation is required, but professional experience in real estate, law, event planning, local government, construction, and finance are just a few areas that are welcome.

The Board meets once a month and members are expected to serve on committees and donate time for events and program development.
